Celebration Cakes by Burch & Purchese

May 11, 2011

Well, it looks like everything is coming together for our Mexican Fiesta birthday party this weekend.  Hubby is in charge of the birthday cake and thankfully he chose to order them from Burch & PurcheseBurch & Purchese is owned by pastry chefs, Ian Burch & Darren Purchese.  Their sweet studio is a multi-sensory space crammed full of sweet treats perfect for a spontaneous indulgent moment through to the definitive dessert extravaganza.  You will find skillfully handcrafted desserts, cakes, ice creams, sorbet, jams, unique chocolate creations and dessert garnishes (designed to help you “pimp up your puds”)  They also specialize in bespoke celebration cakes.  They have a whole wall (below) dedicated to finding you the right flavours for your cake.  We recently bought a few smaller cakes to sample, the Roast Pumpkin, Milk Chocolate, Bacon, Nut Butter cake and the Caramelised White Chocolate, Banana, Macadamia, Passionfruit cake.  They were sensational! The studio has an open kitchen located at the  back and happy tunes are played throughout the store. (It takes me back to my sugar-ridden childhood.)  Here are two of their most popular cakes.

Coconut Mousse, White Chocolate & Mint Wafer, Passion Fruit Jelly, Coconut Caviar, Passion Fruit Curd, Salted Oat & Ginger Crumble, Brilliant White Chocolate Velvet Spray, Ginger Macaroon

Tarakan 75% Chocolate & Vanilla Mousse, Caramelised Pear, Hazelnut Cream, Pear Pastry Cream, Chocolate Hazelnut Brownie, Hazelnut Milk Jelly, Dark Chocolate Velvet Spray, Gold Leaves.

I went to B&P for the first time on the weekend with my mum and husband and just loved it!! We bought the mini versions of the cakes you have above as well as a chocolate/mandarin mini cake along with a bag of honeycomb and a blackberry meringue. Everything was to die for! I want to go back for a jar of the half chocolate spread and half raspberry jam, would make my morning toast so much more interesting to eat!

Ooh I didn’t see that jam! That’s sounds amazing. Now I am going to have to go back to look for it.
      Thanks for the tip.
