Festive Season Party Highlights

I love the festive season. Everybody starts to wind down and prepare to celebrate either the religious holiday that is Christmas or the end of a very busy year.  Around Melbourne, city streets are full of end of year parties with people doting santa hats and reindeer ears, whilst loudly singing christmas carols. It’s festive and wonderful to see.

I’m often invited to join festive season parties with colleagues, clients and suppliers.  So, I thought I’d share a few highlights of my festive parties so far.

Ladies Who Lunch

Our “Ladies who Lunch” event (above) was held at a restaurant in Southbank by the river. I styled our table with some festive highlights – bonbons, star place cards, hidden chit chat cards and my festive accordion paper trees. We also had a little ‘naughty or nice’ secret santa activity, which was a big laugh. (Had to show off my festive polka dot nails too ;-))

Lunch at Gary Mehigan’s Book Launch

I was invited to lunch with Gary Mehigan, partner of Fenix restaurant in Richmond (and a TV MasterChef host). We had a delicious lunch by the beautiful Yarra river which consisted of delicious share plates and wine. Gary chatted with us throughout the afternoon and generously gifted his cookbook, which he later personally signed.  Thanks for an wonderful afternoon, Gary.

12.12.12 Events Industry Night

This was a major event that I attended at the Melbourne Olympic Park and Tennis Centre. It was called 12.12.12 and we received a beautiful invitation that stated it was to be their biggest event ever!  How could I say no to an invitation like that! The night was a mystery event and guests’ journeyed through various rooms to end up outside on the balcony listening to a live music performance and enjoying the balmy evening.

I love attending events especially when they are hosted by the big event companies.  I get an insight into what’s hip and happening in the world of major events.

Image above: our lovely table set by the river, mini quail pies, crab and avocado cones and chocolate mousse topped with popcorn, pistachios and pine nuts layered over pear slices at the bottom.

Image above: Fabulous light sculptures provided a striking centrepiece for the room. Chefs from four regions of the world showcased their finest cuisine. We stepped into a smoky room for the great reveal – a light, sound and dance performance. Performers swung from silk drapes and stopped to top up guest’s champagne glasses.
