Easter is almost upon us and this is about the time that Mademoiselle Belle and I create our little DIY Easter gifts for her classmates at school. I usually peruse Pinterest for inspiration.  This year we decided on creating little Easter Egg Baskets.

How to make this:

  • Pretty paper ice cream cups
  • Shredded paper straw
  • Kraft paper
  • Glue
  • Speckled chocolate eggs

We purchased these pretty paper ice cream cups and shredded yellow paper straw from our local discount store.  Unfortunately our local supermarket ran out of small Easter eggs, so we ended up buying these speckled M&M eggs – which I think are quite cute.  We began by cutting out strips of yellow kraft paper to make the handles for each basket.  We laid out all of the cups onto a tray and glued on the paper handles to each paper ice cream cup.  The handles were more decorative than useful so you need to be gentle. We left the cups and handles to dry for about half an hour and then began to fill them all with the shredded paper straw. We then filled each of the little Easter egg baskets with yummy easter eggs.  Et voila!  The DIY Easter Eggs baskets are complete.

The next day we boxed up the Easter egg baskets and Mlle Belle had the great pleasure of giving them out to her class.  I love to see the smile on the children’s faces.  They’re always so surprised and grateful. This certainly makes our Easter feel very special. Hope you enjoy this little DIY craft.

Tip: We had two class friends with nut allergies, so we substituted the chocolate eggs with jelly beans.

Wishing you a wonderful Easter holiday with your family and friends.
