The Best Macarons in Melbourne!
Well, twenty establishments are competing in the Melbourne Macaron Competition 2010 to determine who has the best macaron. There are three categories; best signature macaron, best chocolate macaron and best designer macaron. If you are in Melbourne you can view the competing macarons on display at the NGV Tea Rooms on Level 1 on Wednesday 27 October. Click here to see the 20 competing establishments. What are Macarons?
Dating back to the 18th century, the macaron is a traditional French pastry, made of egg whites, almond powder, icing sugar and sugar. The sweet pastry comes out of the oven as round meringue-like domes with a flat base. They are then finished off as a sandwich with a ganache or cream filling.
