A Vintage Carnival Birthday

November 14, 2011

We recently celebrated our daughter’s 4th birthday at the Wonderland Fun Park.  It’s a cute little fun park down by the river in the Docklands.  The park features old favourites such as the Dodgem Cars, The Grand Carousel, Bungee Trampoline, and the Wacky Worm Rollercoaster – perfect for for 4 year olds.  We booked a marquee outside and self-caterered. As we’re Costco members we were offered the Unlimited Ride wristbands for 1/2 price.  The staff were fantastic from the moment we enquired to the day of the party.   We decorated the marquee, set the party table and had only a moment before our guests started to arrive. Unfortunately the day of the party began with rain, but the sun eventually came out and we finished off with cupcakes in the sunshine.

In keeping with the fun park activity, we chose the theme of vintage carnival and so began my preparations (about three months ago).  I thought I would share some of the designed features of the party.  The invitations, party hats, party dress and crown were all created by fabulous designers and the thank you postcard was designed by moi.

Image: The invitation suite [above] included the invitation, the invitation slip and a carnival ticket.  The suite was designed by Hermias Wishes, who I cannot recommend highly enough.

Image: Kimberley @ Hermias Wishes kindly designed custom party hats too.  Aren’t they gorgeous?

Image: Unfortunately we weren’t able to take too many photos of the party table.  Our guests were keen to arrive at the party.  Here is a quick snap of the party table with personlised settings (plate, napkin, cup, straw, lunch bag).

Image: These cute lolly jars not only looked the part, but they were so practical.  We were able to easily transport all of the pre-filled lolly jars to the venue and place them directly onto the table – too easy.

Image: The most beautiful vintage carnival big top goody bags created by Jaimee at Bushel + Peck Paper. The bags were filled with a red-striped paper bag of mixed lollies, a vintage wooden spinning top and a vintage carnival puzzle.

Image: Rather than dress the birthday girl in a carnival party hat, I ordered a personalised crown from Paloma’s Nest.  It’s now an heirloom, packed away in it’s own beautiful storage box.  We’ll bring it out for all of ma fille’s future birthdays.

Image: Finally, this photo became the focus of our Thank-You postcards which were sent to our party guests after the party.  The most beautiful little red polka dot dress featured here was custom made by Angela @ Best Little Dress.

      Hi Lori,

I had them custom made by a designer on Etsy. They were a digital design and I just printed them out at home.

Unfortunately the designer no longer has a stationery design store on Etsy.

I would recommend doing a search on etsy.com for vintage carnival invitations. I am sure you’ll find a designer there.

      Thanks for popping by,
